HUB oil seals are primarily used with bearings, hubs, and different types of mechanical systems. The seals are designed to prevent leakage of oil, lubricant, and component damage due to heat.

Oil Seals are used to seal around a rotating shaft and keep an oil-based lubricant inside an axle, engine, etc. Grease seals are used to seal more viscous grease lubricants in rotary shaft applications.

What happens if hub oil leaks?

If a hub seal is leaking, a large quantity of lubricant will be present. Oil or grease may be spattered on the dust shield, brake shoes or brake drum. If this is the case, the seal and other components will need to be replaced.
What happens if hub seal goes bad?
When a wheel seal is damaged, broken, or has completely fallen off, the loss of lubrication can also cause the metal from the bearing to grind against the metal of the hub, resulting in a roaring or grinding noise coming from the wheels.
What causes hub seals to leak?
Easily overlooked, your hubcaps and axle vents being plugged or damaged can be a factor for wheel seals leaking. As the oil in your wheel end heats up, it will begin to create pressure and that pressure needs to be released somewhere. That pressure is typically discharged through the axle vent and small hubcap vent.
How long do hub seals last?
Wheel bearing cartridges and hubs are sealed and lubed for life so no maintenance is required. But if a vehicle is driven though hub deep water or mud, contaminants may get past the seals and enter the bearing.
